This year’s cast includes news analyst and part-time Bugle sales assistant, Jips Driscoll, as “Glitch” and the irreverent Horst Mulebratten as the Possum, back for his eighth season. Also returning is Sonata who amazed audiences last year with her high-wire antics and casual approach to off-script gaffes, like the bite she received from the Possum.
“Herc,” the inept but charming gravedigger, will be played by Dex Strongarm who recently completed a six-week tour with Doc Longsleeves. He replaces Poo Henderson who let a shovel slip from his hand last year, eviscerating a hostess.
Back too will be Sneaky Pete on dobro, Sadie and Peony Gunther on autoharp and Bethany Kingman who’ll appear for one night only (Christmas Eve) to read from the Haunted Ballad
Possum has long been a cult classic in Flubug. The snappy tunes, clever pratter and letter-perfect clogging have delighted audiences since the 19th century and many sing along with the players. Lyrics from “Whoop Him On Down,” “Won’t Drink From My Jug” and “Why’s There Them Possums On My Wall?” are so well known they’ve made their way into the local lexicon.
Tickets for Possum are on sale now. $35 before the show, $45 at the door. Both include a complimentary Possum Swill and possum refrigerator magnet. Parking is $6.00 in front of the Illiad Theater, $12.00 in the Waller-free lot.
